Comrade Baba Sani, Niger State Secretary, Nigeria Union of Pensioners

The General Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Elder Actor Zal has said that the crisis in the Niger State Council of the union will soon be resolved.

Actor Zal said the state secretary of the union; Comrade Baba Sani must be commended for steering successfully the affairs of the secretariat by maintaining a clean record of the council at the national secretariat of the union.

The General Secretary, who came to the state in furtherance of his reconciliation efforts, maintained that he was optimistic the grievances by the ‘Concerned Pensioners’, will soon be resolved. 

He disclosed that as far as the national secretariat was concerned, Niger State Council of the NUP was having a very good record of activities.

He expressed satisfaction with the cooperation and commitment of the union members whom he said were passionate about the progress and stability of the union in the state. He said the state executive committee of the union should continue in the track so as to have a strong and united union.

He then appealed to the aggrieved members to sheath their swords and embrace peace so that the aim of the union which is welfare for all members will be achieved.

He said their report to the national secretariat will include all the complaints, suggestions on the way forward and also grievances of the members and justice will be done to all concerned.

The National Vice President, North Central zone of the NUP, Mr Asen Sambe advised the state secretary of the union to broaden communication and engagement to all members of the union in the state.

He said broader engagement of members and stakeholders in the activities of the union will close gap and help in reducing tension and misunderstanding of the union activities in state.

According to him, lack of communication was the cause of the friction being witnessed, enjoining members to also personally get themselves involved in the activities of their union and not sit aside and be quarreling or casting aspersions to their leaders.

However, while responding to the allegations leveled against the union, the state secretary, Comrade Baba Sani said his actions and that of others were done according to the provisions of the constitution.

He explained that the state council of the union have been keeping all its records clean; maintaining that all the allegations labeled against him arose from things they could not do because their hands were tied by the provisions of the Constitution.

He said the secretariat of the union will continue to serve the interest of all members, while also doing everything possible to adhere to the provisions of the Constitution.

It will be recalled that some members of the union have been at logger head with the state secretary of the union over handling of the union activities.
