Heavily armed gunmen suspected to be armed bandits; Wednesday invaded Allawa and Bassa villages killing six soldiers and a mobile police man.

The gunmen numbering about 200 were said to have burnt down the military base in Allawa and set their operational vehicles ablaze.

A business man in Bassa, Alhaji Sule Bassa who was working on his farm was killed by the gun men who equally carted away several motorcycles belonging to the locals.

According to an eye witness who preferred anonymity, the incidents took place in the wee hours of the night of Thursday when the villagers were deep asleep and the armed men stormed Allawa village riding on motorcycles and wielding assorted guns such as Ak47 rifles.

It was gathered that the bandits caught the soldiers in Allawa town unawares “before they could get themselves prepared to repel the bandits; six of the soldiers and one mobile Police man were already gunned down by the rampaging bandits and their camp set ablaze.

 In a telephone conversation with Journalists, a youth leader in Shiroro local government area, Comrade Abubakar Yusuf Koki said the that the community has been turned into a war zone with bandits holding the locals as hostages ransacking homes killing and maiming innocent villagers.

 “their intention (the bandits), was to rid the area of security presence so that they could have their field day.” Koki told Journalists.

Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, the secretary to the Niger State government, in an interview with Journalists confirmed that there was an attack at the Military operational base in Allawa which according to him is usually a deployment point.

“Yes there was an attack at our army base in Allawa. It is a deployment point. We deploy soldiers and security agencies to black spots in that area from that base. As you all know, Allawa has a huge forest it has become a sanctuary for bandits; what we have done is to deploy security agencies to be able to address and respond to attacks in that area.”
