Niger State Contingent to the National Youth Sports Festival, “Edo 2020” have undergone compulsory COVID-19 test as part of the criteria to participate in the event.

The COVID-19 test was conducted at the General Hospital, Minna.

As at the time of compiling the report, 120 athletes and officials have conducted the test, and the result is being awaited as the team prepares to depart for Benin, the Edo State capital.

Coaches were seen with their players undergoing the test.

However, some players and officials had to pick courage to be tested as they were afraid of the procedure. 

It could be recalled that the festival earlier billed for last year, suffered several postponements due to the out of the Novel Coronavirus, but will be staged next week.

The organizers of the festival warned that athletes, officials, journalists and other stakeholders would not be allowed into the games village without haven carried out the test 74 hours before the commencement of the festival.

Meanwhile, Niger State is to participate in 14 individual and team events.
