Leadership of the Labour Party has taken steps to unite members of the Party and reposition it for the upcoming general elections in the country come 2023.

This was contained in a communique jointly signed by Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi, the state Chairman and Abdulwahid Adeniran, Secretary General, and made available to Newsline after the emergency stakeholders meeting of the party which took place in Minna, the capital city of Niger state, recently.

The statement noted that reconciliation of all aggrieved members of the party was critical at the moment to achieve set objectives of the party as alternative platform for Nigerians’ hope and aspirations for better governance to be achieved.

According to the statement, all pending cases against the factional National Chairman of the Party, Late Comrade A.A Salami pending in courts particularly in Niger and other states of the federation should be withdrawn in the collective interest of members to achieve and give opportunity for alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

The statement also condemned in its entirety the illegal kangaroo imposition of Mariam Ogah by some disgruntled elements as the acting factional national chairman of the Party, adding that the procedure violates Labour Party’s constitution and procedure ascending to leadership and dissociate themselves with the laughable appointment and that the imposition is unacceptable, null, void and of no effect.

The party stakeholders also during the meeting moved a motion for action to be taken by the President, Nigeria Labour Congress within 21 days to commence consultation, as well as holding meetings with relevant stakeholders to chart a new cause for the party, and that efforts should be made to return veteran Chief Dan Onwanyanwu now with the Zenith Labour Party back to the party because his legacies were the best.

The stakeholders during the meeting also mandated Niger state chairman of the party, Dr. Comrade Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi and the Secretary General of the party, Comrade Abdulwahid Adeniran to lead the struggle for rebuilding the party and come up with an action plan, beginning with the inauguration of a convention committee on or before April 31, 2021.

The statement also called on all former and serving leaders of the party, governor, legislators on the platform of the party, former national working committee members, aggrieved party members and other party faithful to take the opportunity to rebuild the party in the interest of the public.
