Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare has apologized to Nigerians, particularly soccer-loving fans over the abysmal performance of Nigeria Super Eagles in the recent two-legged AFCON qualifiers match against the Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.

The Minister who was speaking to Sports Journalists in Minna said every football follower in Nigeria expected a better result from the two encounters, but that in every sports and football, in particular, there are some unpredictable outcomes.

He said they will sit back and make some reviews because when you put your fate in some people’s hands you expect some returns and if you didn’t get the return you desired you have the right to make a review and take a very critical and crucial decision.

“My point is, we are going to sit back, and we are going to review what has happened. We would review the entire team, we would look at the players to see whether they are qualified or not, whether they are ready for the team. We would also look at the Technical Adviser, we would also look at the entire people involved in football administration and the Super Eagles,” Dare explained.

He further stated that when you failed to do the necessary checks you run the risk of repeating the failure and disappointments, adding that as a Minister of Youths and Sports, it was his responsibility to ensure that the interest of Nigerians was protected and to ensure that we have a football administration that serves the purpose, the visions and the needs of our country.

Mr Dare also explained that as long as the Super Eagles sing Nigeria National Anthem, wears Nigeria’s colour and represents about 200 million Nigerians and the sovereignty of Nigeria there is bound to be some intervention at some points from his end and that it should not be misconstrued as interference but a partnership.

He added that no one was happy about what happened against Sierra Leone, hence the need for a review so that same mistake should not be repeated, saying after the review where the blame would be pointed out and corrective measures would be affected and not to just keeping quiet and hope to have a better result next time.
