Niger State Commissioner of Health and Hospital Services, Dr.Muhammad Muhammad Makunsidi has said that a total of 3,391 less privilege women and children were captured in the Niger State Contributory Health Scheme index of Bosso LGA.

The commissioner disclosed this at the flag-off ceremony in Maikunkele Primary Health Care centre, adding that the state is first among the three selected states, and had already paid its counterpart fund.

He said that the state ministry of health would collaborate with the National Identity Card Management Agency to provide the services to the less privilege persons free of charge.

The purpose of the exercise according to the commissioner was targeted towards revitalization of medical services at grassroots level whereby 274 non-functional facilities would be made functional in terms of quality and quantity.

He further noted that the present administration of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has mandated the ministry to provide affordable, accessible and quality services to the people and a total sum of N7, 200 would be paid annually as enrollment fee by those in the formal and informal sectors, politicians, as well as the rich are expected to help the poor.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of the agency, Dr Muhammad Usman stated that the state has a total of 175 formal persons in charge of all the primary health care facilities.

He further explained that the Nicare would provide all registered residents of Niger State access to quality and equitable health care delivery adding that when an individual or member of the family falls sick or require health care services in a chosen facility, there will not be any form of payment at the point of service adding that the registered residents can then save money which would have been spent paying high hospital bills and people who prepaid will have access to Nicare services such as treatment of malaria, typhoid fever, ante natal care, delivery, common surgical operation like appendectomy, harnioraphy and many more.

The executive secretary said that any member outside the allowed six (6) can be registered as additional dependents with the contribution of N7, 200 only per head per annum.

Also in his address, the Bosso Local Government Council Chairman thanks the state government and the ministry for choosing his domain out the 25 LGAs for the flag-off. He therefore called on the people to take advantage of the period to register themselves and their immediate family, he then appealed to well-to-do individuals and the less privilege to actively participate.
