Crisis rocking the Niger State  leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has taken a new dimension as the state chairman of the rulling party, Engr. Mohammed Jibrin Imam has been detained by the men of the anti fraud squad of the state  Criminal Investigation Department (SCID)  of the Niger State Police Command.

Engr. Jibrin, who drove himself in a white Hilux van to the state Police Command headquarters in Dutsen Kura, Minna, along with the state secretary of the party, Barr. Mohammed Liman, he was directed to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the SCID, Mal. Tahir Ya’u,  where he was interrogated for close to three hours before he was ordered to be detained by the head of SCID.

His detention was as a result of a petition forwarded to the Niger State Commissioner of police, Alh. Adamu Usman CP by the state financial secretary of the party, Alh. Nma Mohammed Gbagba alledging that the state chairman of the party has misappropriated over 585 million naira belonging to the party, the money was proceedes from the sale of forms of all the elective offices of the party from 2014 to 2019 and other funds payable to the party such as check off dues among other funds.

Engr. Mohammed Jibrin had earlier addressed a press conference before he went to the police headquarters where he debunked all alledgations in the petition saying that the petitioner was being mischievous in his petition and also violated the constitutional provision of the APC. He has however, constituted a five man committee to investigate the financial secretary after which, an appropriate sanction will be taken against him in accordance with the provision of the party’s Constitution.

He told newsmen that on his part, he had left his detractors to God to judge their action against him, “but the party Constitution will be applied on the petitioner for dilvulging the official secrets of the party as enshrined in the oath of office he took as member of the executive of the party in the state. The state leadership of the party is one of the most transparent in the country, as all our transactions are backed with the needed documents to show at any time for anybody to malign me on the pages of newspapers.”

“The police kept on harassing me without them knowing the party has its way of resolving its internal crisis without their own intervention into what is party’s internal problem. Like I said, I have left everything in the hands of Allah.”

Engr Jibrin asserted that the petition in question has not been served to him by the petitioner. “To the best of my knowledge, if you write a petition against somebody, that person, ought to have been copied the same petition; as I am talking to you now, I have not seen a copy of the said petition written to the police and they keep on humilating me since they received the petition,” the chairman told Journalists at the press conference.

In a counter newsbriefing held at the correspondents’ chapel conference hall in Minna, the state financial secretary of the party, Alh. Nma Mohammed Gbagba told newsmen that the chairman has denied him and his office to perform his official duty as enshrined in the Constitution of the party, as himself and the treasurer as well as the state secretary of the party commandeered the financial transactions of the party in the state without him as the financial secretary knowing anything about the financial status of the party.

The fin sec said his trouble with the party chairman started when he got an alert over the withdrawal of 14 million naira from one of the party’s account, “on receiving the debit alert, I rushed to the chairman’s residence as a mark of respect to his office but not to him as a person. On reaching his house, I told the chairman about the alert withdrawing the sum of N14m from one of the party’s account. The chairman talked to me as if I’m his house boy, he insulted me; I was short of words, I left his house in tears.”

It was after the encounter that the chairman went to the bank to bar the  number of the financial secretary from receiving alert. “As I’m talking to you now, I don’t receive any alert anymore, and by the provision of the APC Constitution, four persons are siganataries to the account of the party; financial secretary, treasurer, secretary and the chairman who must sign any cheque. But the the chairman, treasurer and the secretary are now the only three signatories, they have excluded me, I don’t sign any cheque since then.”

“The only cheque I signed was between 10,000 to 30,000 for the purchase of diesel. It was as a result of this corruption related issue by the chairman, secretary and the treasurer, which the party that claimed to be fighting corruptions are perpetrating; that was why I had to cry out for people to hear me because I have my name to protect as if I allowed this corruption to continue I will be held responsible. So that is why I have to shout for you people to help me out for the whole world to know about the corruption that the party chairman and his  cohort are doing in Niger  APC.” He told Journalists.

Mr Gbagba stated that the chairman has taken the operational activities of the party as his personal estate where he claimed to be demi-god that nobody can challenge him in any action he took in the party, adding that he forgot that the system that brought him to office was the same system that brought him as the financial secretary,
