RICE FARMNiger State Government has constituted a committee to take the data of farmers so as to enable them to get incentives from the Federal Government.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello sets up the committee to be chaired by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alh Ahmed Ibrahim Matane when he interacted with members of All Farmers Association (AFAN), Niger State Chapter at the Government House, Minna, yesterday.

Governor Bello said that to get proper incentives for the farmers; their complete data was required.

He noted that the state was blessed with a lot of arable lands of which the farmers had not benefited much from.

“I have noticed that over the years there have not been many benefits from it and Niger State is blessed with vast lands and a lot of agricultural potentials.

“I think if we interface with various associations we will be able to get informed details of the size of the land cultivated, types of crop cultivated”, he said.

According to him, planning and data collation was critical.

The governor emphasized that what his administration was trying to do is to move the farmers away from subsistence farming into clusters and associations as well as provide them with improved seedlings and modern farming implements.

He said that if adequate things were put on ground they would encounter no problem getting support from the Federal Government.

Some of the crops the governor said would be cultivated included; cashew, palm kernel, ginger, cotton, soya beans, sesame seeds among others.
