Director General of the Bureau, Alh. (Dr) Umar Farouq Abdullahi

Niger State Bureau for Religious Affairs has in the last four years recorded tremendous successes in terms of peace and conflict resolution among different sects, interreligious bodies and social interventions across followers of the two religions in the state.

Director General of the Bureau, Alh. (Dr) Umar Farouq Abdullahi made the disclosure in a chat with Newslineon Sunday in his office recently.

He said the Bureau has impacted positively in terms of people’s welfare through feeding of over 15,000 almajiris and less priviledged in the society during the month of Ramadan in the last four years at 48 centres spread across eight emirates of the three geo-political zones in the state.

He explained that the Bureau has also sponsored a delegation to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for educational and economic synergy and conference on International Union of Zakkat organization in 2016.

He further explained that the Bureau has provided packages for schools especially the less priviledged children among them; it has also assisted various religious organizations, clerics and the less priviledged for Eids celebration; including the provision of sallah meal and Suya meat to over 7,000 less priviledged in the society via 69 cetres across the eigtht emirates in the state.

Twenty five years after commissioning, the Minna Central Mosque witnessed the first general sanitation/cleaning refered to as ‘One-off deep general cleaning’ which according to the DG, was conducted by the Bureau.

Dr, Farouq affirmed that the Bureau has within the period under review sponsored the State Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition held at Borgu, agaie, and Lapai.

According to the DG, the state government through the Bureau has provided Christmas packages for pastors and pastors equivalents of five Christian blocks of CAN, Niger State Chapter.

In furtherance of its activities, the Bureau has sponsored Christmas Carol for the 2018 Christmas Celebration in Minna, followed by a statewide prayer session by both Muslim and Christian faithfuls which was wholly organized by the Bureau and sponsored by the Niger State government

“A Special End of the Year Grant was given to four major Islamic organisations in the state and CAN by the governor through the Bureau which also provided financial support to religious organizations as intervention for religious centres and places of worship from May 2015 to date,” the DG said.

For the first time in the History of the state, a special Ramadan Symposium for Ramadan Tafsir Scholars with a theme ‘Tafsir As a Reliable Path For Preaching Guidance, Peace, And Unity For Harmonious Coexistence And Good Governance’ was also organized by the Bureau as well as the sponsorship of the JIBWIS Annual Qur’anic Recitation Competition in 2018.

The Juma’at Mosques Imams’ Forum special annual general meeting was sponsored by the Bureau in 2017. Moreover, a special symposium/workshop for Juma’at Mosques Imams from the 25 local government areas of Niger state was organized and sponsored.

The special 1439/2018 Hajj and Umrah packages to reknowned Islamic Scholars/leaders across the state was done by the NGSG.

The DG attributed all the successes to the special audience and support given to his Bureau by His Excellency, Dr. Abubakar Sani Bello.
