Niger State Ministry of Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs is to present a budget estimate of over N56.5b to the state house of assembly.

The commissioner of the ministry, Alh Balarabe Ibrahim disclosed this at the post exco meeting held at the Government House, Minna, Wednesday.

Alh Balarabe said that the recurrent expenditure makes up 66.03 percent of the budget size at N37.3b and that the capital expenditure stood at N19.2b making up 33.97 percent of the budget.

He said that the projection of the budget is hinged on the following expectations: statutory allocation N43.6b, internally generated revenue (IGR) from state N1.7b, Value Added Tax (VAT) N9.2b, local government IGR N1.5b, and N1.4b from capital receipts.

He added that the recurrent expenditure was higher than the capital expenditure due to the fact that less work is being done at LG level as compared to the state.

The commissioner revealed that the verification exercise to find out genuine LG staff strength was still ongoing.

Meanwhile Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Alh Jibril Idris Amin has said that the executive council has approved the sum N232.5m to tackle gully erosion in some parts of the state.

Alh Amin said that the areas affected by the erosion are Mashegu, Kontagora, Bida, Mokwa, Kwamba area in Suleja, and FUT-Minna area.

He added that an engineering firm has been engaged to handle the project.
