The Chairman, Gaba Elders Forum, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi Solawu, has commended the Niger State Government under the leadership of Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, for the steps taken to avert further loss of lives following the brutal killing of seven people from Gaba by the youths from Anfani Village.

Speaking on behalf of Etsu Gaba in an interview with journalists in Minna, Alhaji Solawu who is also the Makama Gaba, said the people of Gaba were still in shock one month after the massacre of its people in an unprovoked attack over a parcel of land given in trust, to Anfani for farming and fishing purposes.

He lamented that the vacuum created in the lives of widows and children of those murdered will be very difficult to fill by any individual.

While commending the Niger State police command for their efforts in arresting some of the culprits, he enjoined them to expedite action in arresting the principal suspects who were still on the run and ensure that they are brought to justice.

Alhaji Solawu appealed to the people of Gaba community to remain calm and not take laws into their own hands as efforts were being taken to ensure that all those involved were fished out and punished accordingly.

He assured the state government that Gaba people will remain law abiding and ready to cooperate with the committee set up by the state government to ensure lasting solution to the lingering problem.

He called on the members of the committee to do a thorough job and get to the root of the crisis for lasting peace.

It will be recalled that seven people from Gaba community were recently murdered by some youths from Anfani village over a parcel of land, despite several court judgments in 1977, 1978 and 2018 affirming the ownership of land to Gaba community.
