To address the infrastructural deficit in the state, Niger State Government has awarded roads and electrification contracts worth over N10b.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Alhaji Ibrahim Balarabe disclosed this during post executive council media briefing held at the Government House, Minna, Wednesday.

Alhaji Balarabe said that nine memos were presented and they were all approved for the contracts to be awarded.

He said that the funds for these projects were captured in the 2018 supplementary budget.

According to him, the work will commence in earnest so that they take advantage of the dry season period as the rains were now over.

The commissioner said that amongst the road to be constructed is the Erena Road and its township roads in Shiroro Local Government which is to gulp over N3.6b.

He said that the road which is critical to that area will take off from the Erena Bridge.

He added that 5,000m roads in Kontagora will be upgraded starting from the Emir’s round-about to GRA at the tune of N726.1m.

The commissioner added that the roads in Minna to be reconstructed is the Garima Junction to Tunga Police Station Road, the Eid Prayer Ground Road passing through Angwuwan Daji and the Abattoir Road worth over N2.4b.

He said that Tegina-Kontagora Road with a distance of 10km is to fixed at the cost of N1.7b, while Kagara Township road is to gulp N857.8m for construction.

The commissioner added that N700m is earmarked for Zungeru township roads surface dressing.

He said that Mokwa township roads were to be constructed and the cost of the contract is N716.2m.

On electrification, Kontagora-Rijau electrification extension project is to gulp N487.2m as Gidan Mangoro to Ibeto electrification project in Magama Local Government area is to cost N97.7m.

He said that there was rapid progress on the Minna -Suleja road and that they will continue to talk to the Federal Government to intervene on the Federal roads in the state.

The commissioner added that the repairs on the Minna – Bida road were ongoing and that they were vigorously seeking for partners to dualize the road.
