Former president, Nigeria Handball Federation (NHF), Alh Yusuf Dauda has commended the Chairman of Niger State Football Association (NSFA), Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh for his untiring effort towards the development of football in the state and beyond.
Yusuf Dauda made the commendation during the finals of the 3rd edition of 8-aside football competition organized in his honour by Shiroro local government football council held at the College of Agriculture, Mokwa, Kuta Study Centre Football Field, Kuta recently.
He said the unflinching support of Yusuf Fresh to the tournament and other football activities in the state were worthy of commendation, and promised to support the football administrator to take the round leather game to a greater height.
He called on all stakeholders of the game in the state to support the grassroots football programmes of Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh.
The former NHF Boss appreciated the leadership of Shiroro local football council for the honour done to him and promised to continue to support the championship, adding that he was delighted to be part of this year’s edition.
He disclosed that his history was incomplete without mentioning of the ancient city of Kuta which he considered as his second home, adding that he was given back to the people of Kuta because Kuta people have contributed to his development and achievement he has so far attained.
Speaking at the event, the 2nd vice chairman of NSFA, Alh Kabiru Baba who represented the chairman said the state FA was proud of all its local councils, attributing the vibrancy of the state FA on the pro-activeness of the local football councils.
He commended Shiroro local football council and the sponsor of the championship, adding that the leadership of the state FA was ever ready to support the development of the game in any part of the state.
The chairman observed that football was a unifying factor and as such the FA will not condone any act of hooliganism and urged the football family in Shiroro to continue in the peaceful manner exhibited during the finals.
Sixteen teams participated in this year’s edition of the tournament, adorning the colours of various countries of the world, with France winning the current edition against Croatia by 4-1 via penalty kicks, as the match ended goalless at regulation time.
Certificates, Trophies and cash prizes were presented to the winners as well as players who exhibited outstanding performance during the championship.
Suleiman Musa of France was voted best goalkeeper of the tournament, Abdulkadir Aliyu of England was the highest goal scorer with five goals and the best behave team prize went to Tunisia, while Abdul Hudu of Croatia was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
France went home with N20, 000 cash gift, Croatia got N15, 000, while third place winner Argentina who defeated England by 3-2 went home with N10, 000, all courtesy of Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh.
Among the delegation of the state FA to the finals was the Chairman of Niger State Chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Comrade Abubakar Hassan, the Board member representing North Central in the Nationwide League One (NLO), Mall. Tanko Mayaki, the Principal Private Secretary to the state FA Chairman, Comrade Adamu Sani Osmond, former Chairman of RATTAWU, Niger state, Comrade Sadiq Aliyu Mohammed, and the Special Assistance to the state FA Chairman, on protocols and ceremonies, Comrade Dauda Natty.
