National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has approved the sum of N1, 481,348.10 as the final Hajj fare for 2018 Hajj intending Pilgrims from Niger State.

The Executive Secretary of Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alh. Shehu Barwa Beji made the announcement during a meeting with stakeholders and Area Pilgrims Welfare Officers (APWO’s) of the 25 local government areas of the state, held at the conference hall of the board in Minna, Wednesday.

The Secretary said, after due consultations with the Executive Governor of the state, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello, he has graciously approved subsidy to all intending Pilgrims in the state to N1, 465,500.00, with flat rate of $800 BTA.

He explained that this year’s Hajj fare is less than that of 2017 with N59, 500.00 differences.

He advised intending pilgrims who have deposited the initial sum of N1m to complete their payment of N465, 500.00 on or before 20th June, 2018.

He also advised those who were willing to register for this years’ Hajj to do so before the closing date.

He reminded the stakeholders and the APWO’s of the 25 local government areas that, the law banning the collection of Hajj fare through cash is still in force, explaining that all collections are to be carried out by the APWO’s of the 25 LGAs only, and must be in a certified bank draft, payable to Niger State Pilgrims Welfare Board of initial deposit of N1m and the final payment of N465, 500.00.

The Secretary warned that on no account must anybody collect any additional money from the intending pilgrims than the approved sum and receipted to all pilgrims.

He further warned that such receipt must be officially given by the Board.

He directed that replacement of any intending pilgrim that had paid earlier and could not afford to make the journey for whatever reason must be approved by the Executive Secretary of the board in writing before implementation.

He called on the desk officers in charge of collection, passport and I.C.T, to seek clearance in writing before engaging in any action.

He thanked the Governor of Niger State, Alh. Abubakar Sani Bello for his support and commitment to the board to ensure that success is achieved in all its activities, especially on the subsidy given to pilgrims; who had made Niger State pilgrims fare to be the least in the country this year.
