Governor Abubakar Sani Bello

The ruling All Progressive Congress APC, in Niger state has commended Governor Abubakar Sani Bello for taken the bold decision of dissolving the state executive council, stressing that it was timely and long overdue.

The state party Chairman, Engr Mohammed Jibrin Iman, who made the party’s position known while speaking with newsmen in his office at the state party secretariat in Minna, explained that the state working committee of the party had met and were in support of the state governor’s action.

He said that the commissioners had failed to assist the state governor in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.

According to him, ‘while the government was trying its best to deliver on its mandate, some members of the cabinet were not following the trajectory of the government, they were not truly showing the kind of zeal and enthusiasm of the governor.

‘Rather than delivering on the mandate of the governor to the satisfaction of the people, they constituted themselves into a nuisance by fighting the supremacy of the party by attempting to control the party at their various local governments, leaving the objective mandate of the governor that appointed them.

‘They did not supervised the projects under their ministries, always complaining of lack of funds and when they meet with the governor during their executive council meetings, they will never remind him that the money approved has not been released.

“They will keep mute thinking that by keeping quiet, they will retained their positions but see where it has taken them.

“I know this governor very well and he is one man that does not like sycophancy and you can quote me,” he asserted.

The party leader lamented that despite the training the dissolved members of the cabinet received through seminars and retreats, it was never put into practice.

“You will be surprised to note that before the appointment of commissioners, the governor was making headway and did a lot of projects and many thought with the appointment of the cabinet the tempo will increase but to our greatest dismay, contrary was the case as they practically slowed down the governance,” he said.

Engr Jibrin Iman however pointed out that it was not all members of the dissolved cabinet that were indifferent to the yearnings and aspirations of the party as some of them he said, did their best for the state.

The chairman then appealed to nigerlites not to lose hope on the party but should expect a new beginning as only those that are credible and competent will be sanctioned by the party to be appointed as members of the state cabinet.
