Governor Abubakar Sani Bello

Date of birth: Born in December 17, 1967, to a Col Sani Bello, soldier statesman, multimillionaire businessman and philanthropist, former diplomat, and military governor of old Kano State.

Mother’s name: Hajiya Rabi Sani Bello

Spouse: Dr Amina Abubakar Sani Bello, daughter of the pacifist and heroic Gen Abdulsalami Abubakar, former head of state and father of Nigerian democracy, and Justice Fati Lami Abubakar, Chief Judge of Niger State. She is consultant gynaecologist, lecturer, and public health expert.

Spousal address of honour: Addressed at home by wife as, ‘Daddy;’ in public simply as, ‘The Governor.’

Moniker: Abu Lolo. He has dropped the title of honour and protocol, ‘His Excellency,’ and prefers to be addressed simply as, ‘Mr Governor;’ says title is grandiose and pretentious. “We cannot claim to be excellent if we cannot provide water to the people,” he reasoned.

Profound quote: “I visited (school) hostels where even animals would not like to live in, just as dogs would not eat the food served….It’s unfair to blame students for failing examinations when they study under filthy environment and receive substandard instructions. Previous work: He was a mega business mogul, with prominent interests in telecommunications, property and estate development, banking, hospitality, petroleum, aviation, and medicare sectors. Between August 2009 and August 2010, he was Niger State commissioner of Investment, Commerce, and Co-operatives.

Political career: He has been in active partisan politics since 1993.
